It is said that the Peter Saville designed sleeve for New Order’s Blue Monday single lost Factory Records 4p for every copy that they sold. Tony Wilson believed that a song that good deserved to have something special to house it. He was right.
Coventry based Stylusboy, aka Steve Jones, released his new EP, Whole Picture, last week (6th June 2011). The physical copy comes exquisitely wrapped in a hand crafted sleeve by Stylusboy himself and while the packaging delivers in the style stakes the CD exceeds all expectations in terms of substance.
Stylusboy’s attention to detail is reflected throughout the EP. Whole Picture is a collection of songs that have been honed to perfection. Its strength is in its subtlety, while becoming instantly recognisable and in time unforgettable. Thankfully we’re not talking “go compare” unforgettable.
The heavy use of the glockenspiel throughout is delightful and adds to an overall quirky feel. Like a Jack Johnson/Noah & The Whale/Louis Theroux hybrid. This charming collection of well crafted radio friendly songs is certainly ready for the mainstream.
Each physical copy of the EP comes with a second copy to give to a friend. You can find out more by visiting www.stylusboy.co.uk.
